The Art of Giving (and Receiving.) Holistic living is the knowing that when we give we are contributing to the universe as a whole. The art of giving and receiving has nothing to do with material items and everything to do with your heart, soul and time. They say giving your time is the most precious gift of all. Time is one thing that is limited to all and the one thing we seem to waste so thoughtlessly. The Art of Giving is to give or do without expectation. All actions always begin with intention. Let’s look at the simple act of opening a door and receiving a thank you that thank you can elevate your spirits but what happens when the other person does not give thanks? Do you automatically judge and sarcastically mutter “your welcome”? What did you want to achieve or receive in return? Appreciation? Acknowledgement? Isn’t the knowing that your actions were of pure intentions enough?
“We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.” ―Orison Swett Marden
So what’s the Art of Giving? Knowing that there is no obligation it’s a choice, a choice to give a little of your time or service with intent and of not receiving anything in return. This is the art of giving, having the pure intention to be of service, nothing more. In the ancient Hindu sacred text, the Bhagavad describes this path as Karma Yoga. The path of action or deed. To give service to others for the good of others, selflessly without attachment and without expectation of something in return. This can be any action, it can be being a mother, nurse, volunteering, opening doors... it can be any form of activity that provides service to others and in which you require no recognition or financial reward. And that includes not needing to post it on social media for likes and fame,
The Art of Receiving: Open your heart and mind to the knowing that we are all connected, and helping one person has a domino affect on all that surrounds them and on that same note, when another selflessly extends their arm to help lift you up, take their offer with grace. Allow the exchange of good intentions, allow the other person to participate in Karma Yoga without feeling obligated to “pay back” but instead let their kindness fill your heart with love that it overflows and appreciation that drives you to continue the cycle of giving and receiving.Ready to begin receiving and giving freely book in for a Soul Session today.
